Readers sound off on vilifying socialism, Trump’s retaliation and a sniper’s victims

Those who describe socialism do not understand it
Copying, Li: La Voix James McCaffrey apparently commands a prodigious vocabulary, but not much understanding of the world outside of his bubble on the right. When he says that “socialism has been a failure – a deadly failure”, he forgets that socialism as practiced in the West is very, very different from Soviet communism under Joseph Staline.
Wikipedia document that there were more than 100 socialist mayors in the United States before 1920. Recently? Bernie Sanders was mayor of Burlington, Vermont, from 1981 to 1989 (photo from 1981). The last time I looked at, the buildings were still standing and no blood was running through the streets. The same could be said for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, under the mayors Daniel Hoan (1916-1940) and Frank Zeidler (1948-1960).
Google informs us that according to the World Happiness Report 2025, the happiest five nations are Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and the Netherlands. Finland held first place for the eighth consecutive year. These countries are known for factors such as strong social protection systems, access to nature and high levels of social support.
From 1948 to 1979, England and Israel also had labor / socialist governments.
Are we going to discuss the happiness and prosperity that workers enjoyed in the so-called capitalist democracies of Singapore, Spain, Greece and South America and Central America, not to mention Cuba of Fulgencio Batista? And Vietnam after the departure of the French, but before the North Vietnamese took over? I didn’t think! Mitch Kessler
Adams is the path
Brooklyn: Bill de Blasio won the 2013 town hall elections with 795,000 votes. Republican Joe Lhota arrived second with 264,000 votes. In 2017, De Blasio won the re -election with 760,000 votes against 317,000 from the Republican Nicole Maliotakis. During the 2021 elections, Mayor Adams obtained 754,000 votes against 312,000 votes from the Republican Curtis Sliwa. It will take between 750,000 and 800,000 votes in a competition of two people to win the town hall – less if the four main candidates remain and divided the vote. A republican cannot win. In the democratic primary last week, Zohran Mamdani garnished 446,000 votes of first place. His socialist colleague Brad Lander received 115,000, which will all go to Mamdani in the general elections. This is 544,000 votes for Mamdani as soon as the door is left. Curtis must abandon, and Andrew Cuomo must take his 375,000 votes and go home. We cannot have a communist anti -Semitic as mayor. It’s time to support outgoing Adams. David Dibello
Accidental approval
Manhattan: Ken Frydman, former assistant for the creditive membership and dishonored Rudy Giuliani, suggests that his friend Sliwa, the guardian angel who simulated attacks on the metros to stimulate his brand and who was part of an attack on an innocent man on live television, should leave the race for the mayor and the most corrupt mayor in History Nyc Walker: Adams (“Creud Sluor History Nyc from Jimmy Walker: Adams (” Creud Mayor in Nyc History from Jimmy Walker: Adams (“Craitement Mayor by Nyc History from Jimmy Walker: Adams (” Cray Le Mayor by Nyc History since Jimmy Walker: Adams NYC History from Jimmy Walker: Adams (“Fear Mayo leave and return Adams”, OP-ED, June 30). Another approval as strong as for the reason for which Mamdani should be the next mayor of New York. Eli Ganias
Offensive defense
Dobbs Ferry, NY: Vocer John Esche wrote that President Trump did not consult the congress “before committing an act of war, like all the other presidents.” John, you are mistaken about all the other presidents informing the congress. In June 1950, President Harry Truman, Democrat (and my hero), sent us to Korea to stop the spread of communism, with or without notification of the Congress. He was called a police action. Today we have a dynamic South Korea. Trump bombed Iran to stop the development of nuclear weapons, without informing the congress. May God bless America. Randy Jurgensen
To take revenge
Cincinnati: Now Trump punishes the representative Thomas Massie to disagree with him. Trump is there to destroy it. All Americans should oppose this new hitler. I cannot believe how the Republicans have no dorsal spine. Buffer blade, fearing Trump when they went to sleep to sleep. The new Republicans are exactly like the Humanoids in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. They all hear and obey. I just don’t see how they see Trump as the new model for American children. Lying and taking revenge on people who do not agree with you. Ok, children? Mark Jessee
Rejected
Manhattan: Trump’s promise he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave. And getting away with her finally arrived at a complete and scary circle. Threatening a duly elected member of the congress – in public – that their professional life is over unless they allow his tax relief at a huge cost for the senator’s conscience and that his constituency is equivalent to murder (“GOP SEN. will not end”, on June 30). Putin’s enemies fall from planes, are slaughtered or poisoned, but Donald goes for a more direct approach, and another republican senator in principle bites dust. It saddens me to see how fast this country dissolves in fascism. Chris Santoro
Refused fundamental rights
Bronx: The principles of the American declaration of independence are the support of life, freedom and the continuation of happiness for all Americans. This includes those looking for refuge under his flag. When a leader of such a country violates the heart of his democracy and seeks to destroy these systems put in place to grant said freedoms to all, it is a sad day for this country and an even sadder recognition of the voters of this chief. Charles Jarmond
Editorial atrophy
Arcata, California: William F. Buckley Jr. must run in his grave at the moment at the thought of his beloved national review in the course of a tiny moron like Rich Lowry, which is a long-term and heartbreaking long-term television program whose only conservative television show was co-star on the McLaughlin television group. After Lunatic Lowry was taken with a candid camera last September by calling legal Haitian immigrants on the N -word, it is really surprising that all the newspapers continue to operate the pathetic excuse of Republican Rich for a syndicated column – unless, of course, that the newspaper agrees with deramented Trump efforts “They eat cats, they eat cats”. Trump is disturbed and stupid like dirt. Jake Pickering
Anti-American
Bronx: Regarding the commentary on the Thomas Murawski voice according to which he could only name two causes of violence to the right, and a “supposedly” insurrection: what dream world are you talking about? First of all, this “supposedly” insurrection should have disqualified anyone to run. Imagine trying to overthrow the government because your chef could not admit the defeat and then had the cheek to have this rally. I expect nothing less from you shops. I have already said it and I repeated it: the current president has no American values. Martin Sandok
Left to suffer
Brooklyn: I just read the story of the 115 dogs that have been neglected for years and who lived a terrible life (“she had to die to save her animals” “on June 30). According to history, the 311 was called several times and the police responded in each case, but the owners would not let the cops enter. The cops said they could do nothing unless they had a search warrant or that someone died in the house. Why did the cops not obtain a search mandate? These poor dogs lived in horrible conditions because the cops did not submit. Meanwhile, Peanut the famous squirrel, which was well neat and loved, was killed because of a complaint. More than ever, I am anti-human and pro-animal. Dennis Burge
Dismiss
Yonkers: I read and hear criticisms of Anthony Volpe constantly. First of all, everyone must stop comparing it to Derek throwing. And secondly, what about all the other underperformants of the team (like Austin Wells)? Give a break to the guy! Even the captain, Aaron Judge, has raw stretches and he gave some latitude. Michael Schettino
Tackle
Hallandale Beach, Florida: Prayers for all the firefighters of Idaho and the agents responsible for the application of the laws that were caught in an ambush in a violent and terrorist act against the first stakeholders. Praying so that God guides the hands of medical teams by accepting these victims. Paul Bacon
