Ready or Not 2: Here I am is a direct continuation of the 2019 horror comedy Ready or Notand a sequel that I was very surprised to see on our new movie list.
When I re-watched the original film on Disney+, I was reminded of how great it was. Funny laughs, many shocking moments and a simply perfect conclusion. With that in mind, I thought this would be a great standalone film.
Look on it
The film is strong because of its ensemble cast, which is worth the trip to the theater alone. Elijah Wood plays “The Lawyer,” an equally fun role that you’ve probably never seen him in before.
Despite all these positives, the sequel feels unnecessary and convoluted in places, as the story has now expanded to accommodate these new families and rules, to the point where it seems a bit silly, even for a horror comedy.
This would be a good place to Ready or Not worth stopping, in my opinion, because you can easily watch both back to back and have a good time while doing so. Adding another installment with more stakes and more games would seem like a too many cooks situation.
You will most likely have fun with this movie because of its casting, murders, and tense moments. But it comes to a conclusion that never reaches the heights of its predecessor, so unfortunately the second round is by far the weakest.
That’s not to say it’s terrible, but don’t expect to be blown away like you were last time.
