Oswego may allocate funds to honor 250th birthday of America

The Board of Directors of the Village of Oswego Tuesday evening will plan to allocate $ 100,000 in capital funds for local events in order to commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the declaration of independence.
America is 250 years old on July 4, 2026. The plans to celebrate the big day of the country were in preparation for most of the decade, the congress in 2016 establishing the American semi-printing commission to facilitate country plans on the scale of the birthday celebration.
The national commemoration, nicknamed America250, “is a non -partisan initiative working to engage each American in the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of our country”, according to the website of the effort at https://america250.org/.
Oswego officials are considering financing the events that stand locally to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary.
“Travel to this historic stage is an opportunity to take a break and reflect on the past of our nation, to honor the contributions of all Americans and to look to the future that we want to create for the next generation and beyond,” said the assistant administrator of the village of Oswego, Madeleine Upham, in a report to the administrators.
Upham said the village had created a team of community members and village staff to bring a “unique Oswego celebration” for the birthday.
Fiduciaries are invited to allocate $ 10,000 for this year and an additional $ 90,000 in 2026 to help finance local celebrations.
“These funds will help create educational programming and sustainable infrastructure for future Oswego (residents) to use and benefit as well as funny so that everyone can participate,” said Upham.
