Republicans Say Trump’s Greenland Plan Is “Dumbest Thing” Ever

At least six prominent Republicans in Congress have expressed strong opposition to President Trump’s desire to seize Greenland.
“I’ll be honest with you: There are so many Republicans angry about this,” Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon. said THE Omaha-World Herald. “If he followed through on his threats, I think that would be the end of his presidency. And he needs to know: The way out is to realize that the Republicans are not going to tolerate this and that he is going to have to back down. He hates to be told no, but in this case, I think the Republicans need to be firm.”
It’s “the stupidest thing I ever heard”, later Bacon said Policy.
“If there was an action that made it appear that the goal was to land in Greenland and make an illegal take… there would be enough numbers here to pass a war powers resolution and resist a veto,” Senator Thom Tillis threatened.
Senator Lisa Murkowski has argued that Greenland “should be seen as our ally, not an asset,” and even Senator Mitch McConnell has said that any incursion into Greenland would be “an unprecedented act of strategic self-harm” that would risk “incinerating” NATO diplomacy.
Despite this, the Trump administration still appears determined to seize Greenland. On Friday, the president threat countries that oppose its takeover of Greenland through customs duties.
