“President Trump wants the Department of Homeland Security, he wants the TSA, he wants FEMA, he wants the brave men and women of our United States Coast Guard to receive their paychecks, and he wants this department fully funded and fully reopened,” Leavitt responded.
Leavitt added that Americans who “show up at an airport and face incredibly long wait times and lines” should call their Democratic member of Congress and “tell them to defund the Department of Homeland Security.”
“It is completely ridiculous that the American people are suffering because of these partisan games that Democrats are playing on Capitol Hill,” Leavitt added.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) noted that the DHS shutdown “impacted important functions such as cybersecurity, Border Patrol, TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA.”
“We are 25 days into the Democrats’ shutdown of DHS, and now they don’t even want to sit down and negotiate,” Thune wrote in a statement. job on »
As Breitbart News reported, the DHS shutdown — coming after funds ran out in February — has led Americans to face long lines at airports such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas, as airports face TSA staffing shortages.
Atlanta International Airport advised passengers to arrive “at least 3 hours before” their flight, while Hobby Airport advised passengers to “arrive 4 to 5 hours” before their flight.
