DACA, Bangladesh (AP) — A court in Bangladesh’s capital has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to five years in prison and her sister, British Labor Party lawmaker Tulip Siddiq, to two years in prison for corruption linked to a government-related project.
Rabiul Alam, the Dhaka Special Court judge, confirmed that Hasina had abused her power as prime minister, while Siddiq was guilty of corrupt influence in helping his mother and brothers obtain land in a government project. Siddiq’s mother, Sheikh Rehana, was sentenced to several years in prison and considered the main participant in this case. Hay other 14 suggestions.
Siddiq, who represents the Hampstead and Highgate areas of London in the British Parliament, had previously rejected the accusations and said the judge was an enterprise built on “fabricated accusations and motivated by clear political vengeance”.
Siddiq resigned from his government ministry in January under pressure from his armed forces with her.
Hasina was sentenced to death in November for crimes against humanity linked to the massive high-level crackdown that ended her 15-year rule last year. She lives in exile in India, and all her juicios will be celebrated in ausencia.
Neither it nor the other proceedings in the case where the decision was made last month included defense lawyers for the representatives.
Rehana finds herself out of the country. Siddiq’s two brothers, who are also abroad, surround other cargo ships linked to last year’s sunrise.
In three separate cases related to the same real estate project, another short sentence was handed down to Hasina on November 27 at 21 years old. Hasina’s son and daughter were also sentenced to five years in prison each time by the court in this case.
