On CNN’s “OutFront” Thursday, host Erin Burnett said the increased risk of terrorism comes at a time of “so much chaos, of course, after DOGE and other things.”

Andrew McCabe, CNN’s senior law enforcement analyst and former deputy director of the FBI, said there is a heightened threat environment and “it has been considered, for many, many years, that we could get to the point of hostilities with Iran. And, for that reason, the FBI developed a plan, years ago, for exactly how it would go about assessing the threat climate across the country relative to the event that hostilities broke out. Well, here we are.” It’s time to take this plan off the market and start making sure that we do some of the things that we considered many years ago, contacting sources, resurrecting old cases, finding people from other cases, people who have completed their sentences, and contacting them again.

Burnett then said: “Yes, but it’s time, of course, with so much chaos, of course, after DOGE and other things.”

She added that the Old Dominion shooter had been “on the FBI’s radar for years…with one special agent saying his ties to ISIS — those of the shooter — kept him up at night.”
