Roku is launching a trivia game called… Roklue?

Who needs Half-life 3 Or Beyond Good and Evil 2? Roku, in an effort to gamify content discovery on its platform, has cooked up a gaming ad for the ages. Here it is: Roklue. Yes, it’s a real name that someone with a job title and a (probably high) salary came up with.
Roklue (shudder) will quiz players on “the movies and TV shows everyone is talking about,” as well as classic “beloved favorites.” When it refers to a movie or show, it provides a link for you to connect to on your device. The initial version is a tie-in to the Oscar season (“Roklue: Awards Season”) which begins Saturday. This inaugural release is produced by B17 Entertainment, a company owned by Sony.
Roku says it will rotate themed content throughout the year. Variety reports that these will focus on music festivals, the Emmys and the holidays.
Aside from that name, which should come with a gag reflex warning, Roklue seems harmless enough. You play a quiz to find new things to stream; Roku increases engagement. Win-win. But with business projects like this, it’s always worth asking where increased monetization could possibly come into play. Consider something like linking to series on platforms you’re not yet subscribed to. (Hello, bribe.)
On March 7, you’ll find the free Roklue game (ick) on your Roku home screen, no download required.
