Romulus Middle School is under active investigation after an individual brandishing a gun attempted to gain access to the building on Tuesday, Jan. 6, according to a Facebook post from school board President Porsche Laster.

The individual is now in custody and the school is asking families to allow students to remain at school, according to the 11:02 a.m. Facebook post. There is a significant police presence on campus and media on site, according to the post.

“Keeping students on site allows school staff and law enforcement to manage the situation safely and effectively,” according to the message. “Please be assured that students are safe. The school is currently in a moderate lockdown as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues.”
