Rubio to Trump in Cabinet Meeting – RedState

Hot on the heels of Wednesday’s historic announcement that a peace deal had been reached regarding Gaza, President Donald Trump held a Cabinet meeting on Thursday. The topics covered are many, of course, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s comments regarding the peace agreement and the extraordinary efforts of the administration – and President Trump in particular – really got the attention.

If, like many, you have been praying for peace and the return of the hostages, this video is definitely worth watching. If, like many, you appreciate the administration’s efforts to end the war and return the hostages, this is also worth a look. (If you haven’t/don’t do this, maybe it’s time to do some soul searching.)

Rubio made sure to give credit where credit is due:

You know, I don’t know – someday, maybe, the whole story will be told about yesterday’s events, but suffice to say, it’s no exaggeration to say that none of this would have been possible without the involvement of the President of the United States.

It really started with your trip to the Middle East, where these relationships were built with partners in the region – personal relationships, close relationships that laid the foundation on which all of this was possible. Where I think this really took a turn – remember… a month ago, no one thought this was possible. Where things really changed… less than a few weeks ago was when we were at the United Nations, and you convened a historic meeting, not only of Arab countries, but of Muslim-majority countries around the world — including Indonesia and Pakistan — and created this coalition behind this plan. Then, the following Monday, you met here with the Israeli Prime Minister and this plan was presented. And then, of course, our amazing team of negotiators followed through on that decision.

In the meantime — again, maybe the stories will be told, maybe they never will be — the president has had extraordinary phone calls and meetings —

Here, Trump interjected, nodding his head and saying, “That’s right,” prompting some laughter from the room.

– it required a high degree of intensity and commitment, and that’s what made it possible.

And I think what’s important to understand is that what happened yesterday was really a human story. There is a geopolitical aspect to it, there is no doubt about it – it creates the conditions for one day Gaza to become a normal place again and for people to have a better life and for Israelis to be safe – but yesterday it was a human story. And because of the work that you’ve done – honestly, there’s no… not only is there no other leader in the world who could have pulled this together, Mr. President, but frankly, I don’t know of any American president in the modern era who could have made this possible – because of the unrelated actions that you’ve taken, and because of who you are and what you’ve done and how you’re perceived – and this weekend, because of that, at a very soon we will see 20 living human beings. beings emerge from the darkness into the light for the first time in two years.

And it’s because not only – you used the credibility and the power and the prestige of this office and the relationships that you created, and you committed to making this happen, and I think this will go down as a historic moment in the history of our country, and something that our country should be very proud of – that we have a president who is committed not only to peace but also to the human aspect of reuniting these families.

My final point on this is that just a few days ago, Secretary Lutnick welcomed all of us – many of us – to the Kennedy Center. And we have these families, we’ve been around them for so many years – for two years now – and the stories are heartbreaking, both whose families are alive and those who have passed away as well, who want their loved ones back so they can complete the grieving process. And… it was… we had all hoped that maybe this would be the day that we would have an announcement for them on the seventh anniversary. But I know you were able to talk to some of these families last night, and I just hope the whole nation understands… how incredibly proud they should be of their president and their country for the role they played.

And I don’t want to let this moment pass, Mr. President, without also recognizing the incredible work of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. They are an incredible team working together, facing considerable obstacles to be here this weekend and do it – quite… let me leave it at that – and they have done a great job on your behalf, Mr. President, and they deserve enormous credit. But thank you for what you have done for the world. For the world.

It seems like there are some fascinating stories to be told, and I hope that one day we’ll find out about them. And, as I have noted elsewhere, I am waiting to exhale until these hostages are home, where they belong.

Yet several things are abundantly clear from this moment regarding Rubio and Trump:

  1. They have a great working relationship
  2. Rubio was an excellent choice for secretary of state
  3. Trump deserves a lot of credit for this

Editor’s note: Schumer’s closure is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
