Rudy Giuliani recoveries a fracture of vertebrae and other injuries following a car accident in New Hampshire, a spokesman for the former mayor of New York said on Sunday.

Giuliani’s vehicle was hit from behind when traveling on a highway on Saturday evening, according to a statement published on X by Michael Ragusa, the Giuliani security chief.

“He was injured but is in a good mood and recovers a lot,” said Ragusa, adding: “It was not a targeted attack.”

Giuliani, 81, was taken to a nearby trauma center and was treated for injuries, including “a fracturing of chest vertebrae, multiple lacerations and bruises, as well as injuries to the left arm and the lower leg”, according to Ragusa.

Before the accident, Giuliani had been “reported by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident” and contacted police aid on his behalf, said Ragusa. He said in the statement that the subsequent accident was “random and unrelated” to the incident of domestic violence.

Giuliani was in a rental car and “no one knew it was him,” Ragusa also said in the post on X.

Another spokesperson for Giuliani, Ted Goodman, and the New Hampshire state police did not immediately respond to requests for comments and more details on the accident.

“Thank you to all the people who have reached out since learning the news about my father,” wrote Andrew Giuliani, the son of Rudy Giuliani, wrote on X. “Your prayers mean the world.”
