Russell Wilson Reportedly Faced Early Doubt Joining Giants
Jameis Winston is expected to start the 2025 NFL season as one of Russell Wilson’s backups on New York Giants.
For some within the organization, it is a situation against which some could be against.
According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, there are giants who “preferred Jameis Winston to Wilson in the franchise in a way in which they took place during their visits before the two signed with the Giants”.
Even beyond Winston, it was noted again that Wilson was not exactly the “Giants Apple” when they were looking for a free agency passer.
“General manager Joe Schoen wanted to trade against Matthew Stafford, then preferred to sign Aaron Rodgers before going to the third choice, giving Wilson a one -year contract for 10.5 million dollars, with cooked incentives that could double this money,” wrote Schwartz.

It is clear that Wilson will start the season as QB1. Its status in this position will be based on performance and its leash is probably short, given the circumstances in New York.

Not only did the giants added the experienced veteran Winston, but they had a high -end choice on the Jaxson Dart recruit to Ole Miss.
With the 25th choice in total, the Giants selected Dart to potentially take over as a quarter of the franchise in the future, filling the void that the Daniel Jones Cup left last season.
If the giants cannot take a hot start, it will only go up the pressure on coaches to consider getting rid of veterans and start to experience the recruit.

For the moment, Wilson has done a solid job to obtain the membership of the organization. Not only do the front office and coach staff seem satisfied with its spring sessions, but its receivers have expressed coherent praise for the Super Bowl champion.
As for Winston, he will continue to play a safeguard role. After starting his career as a starter with the Buccaneers of Tampa Bay, the Winston move to the Saints of New Orleans in 2020 was the start of his trip as a safeguard. In the past five seasons, Winston has only started 17 games. Almost half of these departures occurred last season with the Cleveland Browns.
Winston launched for 2,121 yards, 13 affected and 12 interceptions. He obtained a 2-5 file starting for the Browns last season.
