Russia Just Delivered a Big Message to Iran About What It Should Do in Response to the U.S. – RedState

Democrats are furious that President Donald Trump took action against Iran with Operation Epic Fury.
But one of the things you won’t hear about is how his action puts an end to one of their favorite fictions about Trump – the fiction about collusion with Russia, that Trump is somehow in Russia’s pocket. Well, he’s going after one of their key allies, which he wouldn’t do if he was in Putin’s pocket. Once again, the Democratic discourse explodes.
Trump said he was in productive talks with an Iranian leader, and for that reason he said he had given up on hitting one of their power plants. He said he would postpone that for five days to see what the negotiations would bring. Iran has denied it is in talks, but it would do so because it would harm one of its few levers: the effect on markets. Additionally, any leader could refrain from saying anything until they made a deal, so they were not a target for anyone who might not want to make a deal.

But Russia has now reportedly spoken out and called for a political settlement.

They apparently want this done and don’t want their oil supply threatened. They also know that ultimately, if the United States wins and thus ends the Iranian regime, it could find itself in a desperate situation, just like what happened with Venezuela.
“We believe that the situation should have evolved towards a political and diplomatic settlement,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a news briefing.
“This is the only thing that can effectively contribute to defusing the situation of catastrophic tension that has developed in the region,” Peskov said.
In addition to what is happening with Iran, Russia has its own problems to juggle, and the energy situation for it has gotten a bit worse.

Russia’s largest oil port was paralyzed in a massive aerial attack by Ukrainian drones, officials said Monday as images showed huge fireballs.
Several strikes destroyed large areas of the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk, which processes at least a million barrels of oil a day in a market already crippled by rising prices due to the war in Iran.
Drones have struck fuel storage tanks at the port – home to Russia’s clandestine network of “ghost ships” – with satellite images showing smoke rising from several areas of the key terminal.
So they won’t want to juggle Iran at the same time. This will add even more pressure on Iran to settle if pressed by Russia. It could also indicate that Russia knows Iran cannot prevail.
Editor’s note: For decades, past presidents have done nothing but talk. Now, Donald Trump eliminates the Iranian threat once and for all.
