In Britain, soccer is football, and football is…well, they don’t have it. They have rugby, which is similar. Maybe that’s why Hailee Steinfeld, wife of (American) football player Josh Allen, is trying her hand at rugby-core, stepping out in a two-piece outfit with big bold stripes that scream “tackle me.” Or maybe a less aggro “Let’s huddle up, mate.”
But make no mistake, Steinfeld’s look is not for doing anything athletic. Let’s start at the top and work our way down because, trust me, scrolling slowly will be rewarding. The collar is asymmetrical, stitched onto the the shoulder seam instead of going down the front. An odd but sort of stylish choice.
Then we get to the thigh slit. Also unexpected, but sexy and youthful. Oh! The skirt has a slit in it! Guess that’ll make it easier to walk in—

—Surprise! Not a slit! It’s a cut-out! And it has an additional slit in the back because we can see the wheel behind Steinfeld next to her knee. Taken with the off-kilter collar, we start to see a less athletic and more playful picture take shape, that of a topsy-turvy design world where elements have been mixed and matched.
