Trump escalates crackdown by designating ‘Antifa’ a domestic terror group

The repression of the Trump administration against the threats perceived on the left after the death of Charlie Kirk continued on Monday evening, Donald Trump announcing a decree entitled “The designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization”. The order orders the ministries and federal agencies to “investigate, disrupt and disrupt all illegal operations – in particular those involving terrorist actions – carried out by Antifa or anyone claiming to act in the name of Antifa, or for which Antifa or any person claiming to act in the name of Antifa has provided material support.”
The impact of the order is not clear, because experts have noted that “inner terrorism” is not recognized or sanctioned in the way in which foreign terrorist groups. In addition, “Antifa” is an unstructured anti-fascist movement, like the former director of the FBI, appointed by Trump, told Congress in 2020 that Antifa was not an organization, but an “movement or ideology”. Trump first said he would sign order on Truth Social last week.
Today’s order says that “Antifa is a militarist and anarchist enterprise which explicitly calls for the reversal of the American government”, with “coordinated efforts to obstruct the application of federal laws through armed conflicts with the application of laws, organized, militant riots. »»
From the Kirk shooting, there have been republican commentators, politicians and civil servants calling for free civil freedoms targeting discourse and donations to liberal political causes. Today’s order is handling with the campaigns targeting employers, large technological companies and end-of-evening talk shows.
