Iran’s Khamenei Reportedly Burrowing Underground in Terror of Trump Airstrikes – RedState

News from Iran has been scarce in recent days. The regime engaged in a hideous crackdown against the Iranian people’s uprising and against the Internet, and thus the flow of information out of the country virtually ceased. It’s disconcerting, but there is some interesting news: it is now being reported that the supreme leader himself, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that savage and barbaric theocrat from another century, has gone into hiding.
Perhaps out of fear of American airstrikes?
The 86-year-old supreme leader moved to a fortified shelter in Tehran connected to a series of elaborate underground tunnels after top military officials warned of the growing likelihood of an imminent US attack, Iran International reported, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Khamenei left his youngest son Masoud Khamenei, 53, in charge of running the day-to-day running of the Islamic Republic, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Masoud Khamenei’s emergency tasks include being the main channel of communication with the regime’s executive branch, according to the report.
Iran said the likelihood of US airstrikes was high after President Trump announced on Friday that warships were heading to the Middle East as a warning to the Ayatollah, following an ongoing verbal war between the two leaders in recent days.
Iran may be right about US airstrikes. The USS Abraham Lincoln and its task group are heading to the region, and one of our aircraft carriers and its support ships represent more military power than all Iran can muster together.
Trump bragged Friday that the U.S. Navy was sending a massive “armada.”
The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, which includes three destroyers, is currently heading from the Indian Ocean to Iran’s Persian Gulf region, Stars and Stripes reported.
Publicly, Tehran has not backed down from heightened tensions with the United States, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian threatening to treat any attack on the supreme leader by the United States or Israel as “total war against us.”
Tehran – or, more accurately, the mullahs, including the withered old crier they call the Supreme Leader, cannot back down. To back down would be a sign of weakness for them. It would be more accurate to say that this is perhaps the only thing that would prevent a rain of American munitions.

Of course, eliminating the mullahs, or even allowing them to go to Moscow or some other place that would welcome them, would be a victory for much of the known world. Imagine an Iran, or Persia, if you prefer, where the mullahs are gone. Imagine the world’s leading state sponsor of Islamic terrorism, under new leadership, shutting down the flow of money to Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. Imagine an Iran with a modern parliamentary democracy, probably the best we can hope for in this part of the world.
Imagine if there were no more mullahs.
We don’t yet have the best idea of how serious the situation in Iran is. Reliable information from the Islamic Republic is currently as rare as hen’s teeth. But all that is needed is for the current regime to be overthrown, one way or another. Task Force Lincoln can do them a lot of damage, very quickly, but America cannot and should not put its troops on the ground; the Iranian people should do it. But we can provide considerable air support by striking key regime targets, should that happen.
Because JDAM means never having to say you’re sorry.
