Samsung adds much needed brightness to its Freestyle projector

The Freestyle Plus all-in-one portable projector offers 430 ISO lumens, which is “nearly twice the brightness of the previous generation,” according to Samsung. Great! But also a bit strange since the original and second generation Freestyle projectors listed “550 lumens” on their respective spec sheets.
You see, projector manufacturers are notorious for playing fast and loose with lumen specifications. So much so that Epson has gone on a rampage over the past few years. As a result, companies like Anker, Yaber, AAXA, Xgimi, AWOL vision… even Dr. J have all been forced to rephrase brightness measurements into ISO lumens, the industry standard. This is a good thing, because having a consistent brightness specification makes it easier to predict how the projected image will stand up to ambient light that wants to blot out the viewing experience.
The Freestyle Plus still looks and acts a lot like the original Freestyle 1080p projector released in 2022, retaining its rotating barrel design, built-in speaker, and ability to stream your favorite services over Wi-Fi. It now comes with all the auto-adaptive features common to modern laptops, including keystone correction, focus, screen adjustment, and the ability to calibrate the image based on the color and patterns of walls and floors. ceilings. It still lacks a battery, though, although it can be paired with some power banks to maximize portability.
Samsung isn’t providing any detailed specs, pre-order dates, or even pricing ahead of the big CES show. We found the original to be significantly overpriced, at $899, and that was in a pre-Trump world.
