It Is Illegal in Minnesota to ‘Conceal Carry Without an ID on You’
During an appearance on FOX News Sunday briefing This week, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized that concealed carry in Minnesota is illegal “without identification on your person.”
His statement came after host Peter Doocy pointed out that the gunman who was shot and killed by a federal agent Saturday in Minneapolis “legally held a concealed carry permit.”
Doocy then asked: “Is your message for people who [have] concealed carry permits, that if they go to a protest they have to leave their gun in the car?
Noem responded, “No, my message to individuals is: do not interfere with law enforcement operations. It’s not legal, you’re breaking the law by doing that.”
She added: “It also breaks the law in Minnesota when you conceal a bag without identification on you. »
Saturday, DHS note that the man who was shot by a federal agent was carrying a 9mm handgun with “2 magazines and no ID.”
The Minnesota Carry Law states: “The holder of a carry permit shall have in immediate possession at all times the permit card and a driver’s license, state identification card, or other government-issued photo identification when carrying a pistol and shall display the permit card and identification document upon lawful request by a peace officer, as defined in Section 626.84, Subdivision 1.”
After emphasizing the ID requirement for concealed carry permit holders, Noem added: “You shouldn’t put your hands on law enforcement and get in their face and try to stop them from doing their job. It’s all part of protocol, but it’s also the law, and when people break the law, [are] consequences for this.
