Samsung announced a New Galaxy Watch 8 During their galaxy event unpacked this week. (We have more hereIncluding two new phones that have also been announced.) The Galaxy Watch 8 brings the rotary bezel back to a classic version, and has new intriguing health measures that I have seen in any other intelligent watch: vascular load and antioxidant index. There will also be a coaching coach and a sleep coach.

The Galaxy Watch 8 is Available in pre-order on the Samsung websiteAnd will start to ship on July 25. The models and prices go something like this:

The “classic” model has the rotary bezel around the watch’s face. This and the largest size are what you pay if you opt for this version; Otherwise, all Watch 8 models have the same features. They also all have a square shape with a round watch face in the middle, just like the $ 649.99 Galaxy Watch Ultra (And speaking of the ultra, he did not get major updates this turn, but you can now get it in blue).

What’s new in the Galaxy Watch 8

Physically, the form and the rotary telescope (on the classic) are the new most obvious features. The 8th is also a little thinner than the Galaxy Watch 7, and there is a redesigned paw (strap attachment) to help the watch sit closer to your wrist. Samsung says it improves precision, which seems plausible to me – I noticed it with other watches The fact that a better adjustment means better monitoring of heart rate.

What do you think so far?

Regarding the software, Samsung has announced some new features:

  • A racing trainer This assesses your physical form on a scale from one to 10, and gives you a training plan to improve yourself. To obtain your initial note, you will have to answer certain questions about your previous race experience, then perform a 12 -minute race – also known as Cooper testThis is a method tested in time (if not perfectly precise) to estimate your VO2max. Samsung has a video with a demonstration of the test and examples of the training sessions here.

  • BedtimeWho will recommend a bedtime window for you. He uses your previous sleep schedule to find out when you tend to sleep, and your recent sleep nights to find out if you need more usual sleep for a special day. (I used this feature on other laptops, like Oura, and I found it useful.)

  • Vascular loadthat Samsung does not really explain except say That you will get better if you remain active, feel lower stress and eat a healthy diet. Samsung previously Tell Cnet that it has to do with arterial rigidity. There is research Bind arterial rigidity to the vascular load in the medical sense, and several laptops now consider arterial rigidity based on the readings of the sensor. I can’t wait to see more information from Samsung on the way it calculates and validate this metric.

  • Antioxidant indexThat you measure by removing the watch and putting your thumb on the sensor at the back of the watch. The watch apparently seems to use LEDs and sensors to assess the color of your skin, in the direction of its orange. (If you have already had a toddler who has eaten tons of carrots or sweet potatoes and you have a Orange Glow to their skinIt is the same idea – even if in adults who follow a more normal diet, the effect is much more subtle.) If your antioxidant index is low, you will be pushed to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Coaching Run and Sleep is excellent features of new features in an intelligent watch, but I am a bit skeptical about the usefulness of vascular load and antioxidant index will be in real use. The Galaxy Watch 8 is Available in pre-order nowAnd the Galaxy Watch 7 is currently on sale for almost 50% reduction.
