Part of the Left’s Coordinated Effort to Destroy the Court – RedState
As reported in today’s Morning Minute, it’s a busy day on Capitol Hill, with multiple hearings underway, not the least of which was Tuesday morning’s Senate Judiciary hearing titled “Arctic Frost: Conspiracy and Coordination Against President Trump and the American Right.”
Video of the full hearing can be viewed here, but Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) used his allotted time to address concerns about the Supreme Court – in particular, what he sees as a coordinated effort by the left to destroy the Court’s independence.
Hawley cited the recent New York Times article featuring leaked notes from the judges’ private documents regarding internal communications regarding the “shadow file.”

Hawley looked into the leaks and pointed the finger directly at the left for this blatant violation of the Court’s security and independence.

“I would like to speak today about another scandal, if possible, that is underway, and that is the attempt by the American left to destroy the independence of the Supreme Court of the United States.
“We have had, in recent days, a new series of leaks from this court. I am holding here a page – a printout – this time the judges’ private papers.
“You may recall that just a few years ago, someone leaked an unpublished draft internal opinion – for the first time in the history of the Supreme Court – leaked it in an attempt to derail it – that was the Dobbs decision – with the aim of derailing an opinion of the Court.
“Now, from the judges’ private personal documents that legally belong to them, we have multiple leaks – from February to January 2016 – that were leaked to the press. Why? For the sin of the Court’s supposed inability to address the global climate crisis.
“That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, that’s what the New York Times is telling us: The Court has failed to properly handle the global climate crisis. And as a result, anyone on the Supreme Court who wants to destroy the independence of that body is now leaking the justices’ own private papers.”
After pointing out the ridiculous nature of the New York Times’ apparent opposition to the Court, Hawley then emphasized the insidious nature of these attacks on the Court’s integrity.
“This is part of a coordinated attack on this institution that has been going on for years. The goal is to destroy the independence of the Supreme Court, to force this Court to do what the left wants in this country, and to clearly threaten the Court that if they don’t do it, they will be filled with new justices, they will be personally threatened, their papers will be leaked, their security will be threatened. And in short, the left will do everything they can to destroy the Court as an institution.
“I’ve worked at this court, I’ve argued before this court as a private attorney and attorney general for the state of Missouri. And I can tell you that what’s happening now is absolutely a coordinated effort to destroy the court. It’s been years in the making.”
We are four years later-Dobbsand although we know that the Court conducted an internal investigation, the investigation apparently did not identify the source of this leak. Will there be an investigation into this latest violation? One would hope so, but I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath over the culprit(s) revealed.
