The Democratic Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, attacked the possession of firearms and the second amendment during an MSNBC appearance on Wednesday during which he doubled by rejecting prayer.

The initial comments of Frey criticizing those who prayed came at a press conference on Wednesday morning after an active shooter opened fire during a mass from the whole school held by the Catholic school announced Wednesday morning, killing two children and injuring at least 17 other people. Frey praised “other countries” which was controlling firearms after the shots while appearing on “The Briefing with Jen Psaki”. “We have more firearms in America than people. Say that. We have more firearms in America than people. For what? Why is it so easy to get a pistol? Why is it so easy to get a ton of entire pistol? Why can you buy a pistol almost every month if you wanted? Frey has placed himself to welcome Jen Psaki. “We are not talking about your father’s shotgun. We are talking about people who have obtained firearms that seem – in this case, legally – who obviously have a ton of mental health problems. ”

“You are not in your head if you go to a church to shoot it. You are not at the head. But the fact that you have weapons, in fact, a lot of weapons, why are you okay? Frey continued. “You know, it has dropped in other countries and they say:” You know what, we are no longer going. We don’t want it to happen. We are going to do something. “”

Australia made a compulsory “redemption” of rifles and semi-automatic hunting rifles after a mass shooting in 1996 in Port Arthur. Canada adopted legislation prohibiting more than 1,500 types of firearms following a mass shooting in April 2020 in Nova Scotia which killed 23 people.

Other Democrats, including Democratic Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut and Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota also called for laws on firearms, including the ban on so-called “assault weapons”, following the shooting. Frey’s comments praised Klobuchar and the host of CNN Dana Bash during a Wednesday afternoon segment on the network, during which Klobuchar called for the prohibition of so-called “assault weapons”.

The “assault weapons” are an understatement that defenders of firearms use to obtain support to prohibit certain semi-automatic firearms with characteristics which provide a cosmetic similarity with firearms capable of fully automatic operation. “What has been poorly qualified an assault weapon ” is a semi -automatic firearm that only pulls a ball with each traction of the trigger (compared to a fully automatic firearm – the machine gun – which continues to release the trigger)”, the National Shoing Sports Foundation (NSSF) said in a sheet of facts. The NSSF estimated that more than 24 million “modern sports rifles”, which include AR-15, are “in circulation” in a version of July 2022.
