This will also be what awaits John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin if they choose to continue coaching next season. Both men parted ways with their respective teams.

Harbaugh spent 18 seasons in Baltimore and won Super Bowl 47, while Tomlin won Super Bowl 43 and spent 19 seasons in Pittsburgh.

“(Tomlin’s) run there. John Harbaugh’s run there. The consistency and the toughness. The wins,” Payton told reporters Tuesday.

“(Tomlin) is a close friend. Every time I get these black and yellow Jordans, he’s the same size as me, I send them to him. I tell myself I’ll never wear those colors. I wish him luck. It’s part of the game.”

Payton won Super Bowl 43 during his 15 seasons in New Orleans. Its bid to win another one will resume Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET when the Broncos host the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round at Empower Field at Mile High.

Something that bothered Payton throughout the season was the family atmosphere at Mile High. Earlier in the season, he complained about the scoreboard antics. On Tuesday, he gave new instructions to the crowd.

“For years we have been conditioned to increase the noise level when they break up groups. The noise level should be the loudest when they enter groups.

“Can we do that collectively for 65 snaps? That’s a huge advantage.”
