After a change in his position, Sean Rice by St. Laurence felt a sudden and positive thrust.

It was almost electric. As his game has been since.

Rice, a 6 -inch and 220 pound junior, is a converted defensive end. The Vikings have decided to release it this year as an elite rusher which can also hide as an outdoor secondary.

“Last year was incredible, but I felt undersized as a defensive side,” said Rice with a sign of the head. “It’s better suited to my body, and seeing a game go in my way gives me the impression of being able to do anything.”

It was everything and anything on Saturday for Rice, who recorded an interception, a recovery escaped from his own bag and five plated in a 41-0 victory against Leo at St. Xavier in Chicago.

The second-year quarter of the second year Noah Taylor launched a pass of 76 yards to the senior receiver Matt Williams to direct Saint-Laurence (4-1). The senior ball carrier Cory Cory, who also had a 17 yards TD race, launched a pass of TD to the option to the main receiver Kameron Mchughu after the Rice band bag.

The defensive back junior DiCaprio Turks has successfully interception and the junior defensive line Daquan Brumfield added eight plated for Leo (2-3).

But for the Vikings, who won their second bleaching this season, the glowing criticisms were for rice.

“There is something really special at Sean,” said them. “A game can end a defense trip, and it does and more. The way he returns the position on the field is simply special.

“This is something you don’t see much. I’m happy to have it. “

Installed by Rice’s interception return of 27 yards, Taylor finished the first half with a TD race of 2 yards.

“He just gives us the opportunity to score more easily,” said Taylor about Rice. “I think it really changes the momentum for our team in general.

“It gives everyone confidence when they see a guy playing games like that.”

Rice offers an obvious and convincing physical presence for Saint-Laurence. But there is more.

“I would describe my style as fast and physical,” he said. “I go down each piece while trying to beat the guy in front of me. I also grew up as a leader. I was not as vocal last year as a second year student.

“Now, playing the secondary, I can see more field and communicate with my teammates.”

Changing the gears, Rice also plays a tight end for the team’s offensive. Playing on both sides of the ball turned him into a exhilarating defensive playmaker who can tilt the field in favor of St. Laurence.

“I just go out each piece trusting the other 10 guys on the ground to do their job,” he said. “Both games, doing my job is a big game, and it leads to good things for my team.”

If the family name is familiar, it is because the older brother of Sean is Jacob Rice, who was an exceptional advantage for the Vikings in basketball. They grew up together playing football flag and basketball.

Their paths then separated, although Sean still plays basketball. Jacob emphasizes basketball and frequent Berkshire, a preparatory school in Massachusetts. Their father, Mike, played football NCAA Division III in North Park.

Football, meanwhile, is Sean’s first love. Having double -directed talents has also raised its profile with Power Four Colleges. He visited Illinois, with dates to come in Purdue and at Iowa State.

The increase is very attractive and probably only to develop and deepen

“He was young on the Varsity last year as I am now,” said Taylor. “It was a good model of how I should act as a second year on Varsity.”

For all its natural capacities, Rice has a creative and introspective side that illuminates his personality.

“I like to draw art lessons,” he said. “It reflects my mind before training, especially when I have a lot on my plate.”

Currently, his self -portrait turns into a work of art.

“I think my personality shows in the field,” said Rice. “After big games, I jump, I relax, I exaggerate my teammates. I just want to be a good teammate and a good leader.”
