The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued watches for extreme cold and possible heavy snowfall in the Texas Panhandle area, anticipated to impact the region starting Friday through the weekend.
Winter Storm Fern’s bitterly cold temperatures, snow and wintry precipitation is making for hazardous travel conditions in Lubbock and across the Texas South Plains.
Due to Winter Storm Fern and out of an abundance of caution, the following churches and houses of worship have announced changes to service times this weekend:

What churches and houses of worship canceled service around Lubbock?
First Presbyterian Church of Lubbock has canceled its services for Sunday, Jan. 25.
St. John’s United Methodist Church is cancelling all worship services on Sunday, January 25.
St. Paul’s on the Plains Episcopal Church, Lubbock—all in-person services and events are cancelled Sunday, January 25—worship will stream online at 10:30 AM on Sunday on our Facebook page.
Lubbock Catholic Diocese – Due to forecasted winter weather, all events for Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Diocese of Lubbock facilities at 4th Street and the Guadalupe Youth & Family Center of the Diocese of Lubbock are canceled or postponed. Please check with event/meeting organizers for cancellation/rescheduling information.
