Firefighter critically injured in 5-alarm fire in the Bronx

At least one firefighter was seriously injured against a fire at five alarms raging in the Bronx on Sunday evening, authorities announced.

Flames broke out in a multifamilial house on Devoe Terrace between Webb Ave. and W. 190TH St. in University Heights just before 7:30 p.m., and quickly swallowed up the residence before spreading to two other houses.

In addition to the firefighter in critical condition, another firefighter was in serious condition. A third firefighter and an EMS member were also injured and, in a stable state, the authorities said.

At 10:30 p.m., the fire had not been under control, with additional units requested to relieve firefighters fighting against the flames, the authorities said.
