Sen. Tom Cotton Asks IRS to Investigate CAIR’s Non-Profit Status – RedState
For years before September 11, 2001, we have often heard the sentence: “They were at war with us, but we were not at war with them”, when the talking heads and the “experts” spoke of radical Islamic terrorism. Since this horrible day, the United States has literally went to the ends of the earth to find, not only those who were responsible, but also those who financed the operation.
But September 11 was not the end of terrorism. He continues to perform worldwide, with a large network of individuals and behind the scenes funding his activities. In the United States, could groups here be linked to terrorism? Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) wants to discover it.
Cair claims to be an organization of civil rights which protects the rights of American Muslims. But the evidence confirms @Cairnational has deep links with terrorist organizations.

On Monday, Cotton sent a letter to the IRS commissioner, Billy Long, asking them to investigate the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as a non-profit organization 501 (C) (3), and its possible links with terrorist organizations, including Hamas and the Muslim Brothers. Cotton’s letter reads in part:
“CAIR claims to be an organization of civil rights dedicated to the protection of the rights of American Muslims. But substantial evidence confirms that CAIR has deep ties with terrorist organizations.”

Cair and its possible terrorist links have been the subject of speculation for years. As cotton quotes in its letter, in 2007, the co-founders of Cair Omar Ahmed and Nihad Awad were not only listed individually as members of the Palestine Committee of the Muslim Brotherhood, but Cair was too. The Palestine Committee is a coalition of various Islamic groups with chapters around the world. At the time, Ahmed and Awad were respectively the president and the director of public relations for the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), a Hamas front group which dispersed propaganda and a member of the Palestine Committee.

It’s better. In November 2024, during the annual convention for Palestine, held in Chicago, Awad spoke how surprisingly he was stunned by the attack of October 7 against the Israelis by Hamas, saying:
“The inhabitants of Gaza have decided to break the seat – the walls of the concentration camp – on October 7. And yes, I was happy to see people break the seat and throw the chains of their own land and walk freely in their land where they were not free to defend themselves. Self -defense.”
It is even obvious to other Muslim countries of the real Cair mission. In 2014, the United Arab Emirates (Water) listed CAIR as one of the 83 terrorist organizations. A surprising decision given that the United Arab Emirates had promoted Islamism and that Cair had collected water funds. At the time, the Washington Water Embassy, DC, had praised Cair. In February 2025, CAIR paid a trial brought by a former member of the board of directors and an employee, rather than to disclose his sources of foreign funding.

Cotton concludes his letter to the commissioner for a long time, saying: “Tax exemption status is a privilege, not a right, and it should not subsidize organizations with links to terrorism.” CAIR’s summary activities took place under the nose of republican and democratic administrations, and it is beyond the time to know exactly with what and with whom they are involved. And as for many things now, someone from the Trump administration will take to find out what’s going on.
