The president of the North West University, Michael Schill, announced his resignation Thursday after a battle for several years with the administrations of Biden and Trump on the management of anti-Semitism by the University.

Schill recalled “serious and often painful challenges” with which the university was confronted under its direction and mentioned the current tensions with the federal government in its announcement of resignation, finally citing consultations with the board of directors of Northwestern as the push behind its decision. Northwestern has been surveyed by the Biden administration and punished by the Trump administration up to $ 790 million for its response to anti -Semitism.

“In the past three years, I have been my deep honor to serve as president of the Northwestern University,” Schill wrote in his announcement to the university community. “Meanwhile, our community has made significant progress while facing extraordinary challenges. Together, we have made decisions that have strengthened the institution and helped protect its future. ”

A northwest spokesperson referred the Daily Call News Foundation to the Schill public declaration.

Schill was a major contributor to the University’s decision to conclude an agreement with anti-Israeli demonstrators in 2024, would have appointed two “radical anti-Israel” teachers to supervise negotiations. Private messages have exhibited several administrators saying that they were “inspired” by the demonstrators and hoped to grant them “incredible victories”. “At the same time, since the very beginning of my mandate, the northwest has faced serious and often painful challenges,” continued Schill in his message. “I also recognize that difficult problems remain, especially at the federal level. It is essential to continue to protect the mission and excellence of the research of the university while preserving academic freedom, integrity and independence. ”

The University’s agreement with demonstrators included an examination of its foreign investments, a commitment to organize Palestinian teachers and students at university costs and a promise to create new housing for Muslim and Middle East students.

In a testimony of May 2024 before the Congress, Schill admitted that none of the demonstrators had been suspended or expelled at the time.

Schill said he would stay at university to teach and seek the Northwestern law faculty.
