Shein prices spike after Trump ends de minimis exemption

Online retailers are mainly affected by President Donald Trump’s prices and the treatment of minimis exemption.
Take a look at the prices hikes Reuters saw Shein, a fast -fashioned fashion sales retailer based in Singapore. A “bodysuit” increased by 63% from April 24 to July 22, according to Reuters. During the same period, a children’s t-shirt increased by 68%, boy shorts increased by 57%, a boy t-shirt increased by 45%, a girl’s rooftop increased by 52%, a baby shirt increased by 24%, to appoint a recent price of 35%, and a girl’s dress increased by 10%, to name some recent prices.
Shein has exploited marginalized women for their influence trip. It worked.
“Reuters followed the price of 70 of the least expensive clothing items listed on the American -oriented website in Shein in the categories of girls, boys, men and baby on April 24, a day before Shein price adjustments came into force to accommodate new price rules from May 2, which exposed these packages at the time to 145 [percent]”Reported Reuters.

These price increases are probably due to the elimination of the minimis exemption, according to Reuters.
On May 2, Trump ended the minimis exemption. This means that the plans worth less than $ 800 entering the United States from China are no longer exempt from tax. Trump’s official reasoning is that sellers use exemption to send illicit substances such as fentanyl in low value packages. While legislators on both sides of the aisle agree that a reform on the disposition of Minmis could slow the spread of drug trafficking in the United States and help us make, some support its effectiveness both to slow down illegal drugs and help us make, and be wary of the moment coinciding with its continuous trade war.
And, as Reuters underlined in a working document published by the National Bureau of Economic Research last year, the elimination of the exemption “will cost American consumers between 10.9 and 13 billion dollars overall, but the relative cost per person will be higher for low -income Americans.”
These prices and the end of the minimis exemption do not only affect Shein, although it is one of the largest electronic commercial companies carried out. Influencers, content creators and entrepreneurs, in particular those who sell their own goods and work with brands that sell under the exemption from minimis, also feel pain.
