Sheinbaum Slams US Capture of Maduro As Trump Hints ‘Something’s Going to Have to Be Done With Mexico’ – RedState

Whatever our opinion on the more-than-effective capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on Saturday, we can all agree that President Donald Trump has drawn attention to those who transport fentanyl and other deadly drugs into the United States — or is turning a blind eye to those who do.
One of these people is Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
Whether Sheinbaum was nervous, angry, or both, she shared a statement on social media, released Saturday by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE):
The Government of Mexico strongly condemns and rejects the military actions carried out unilaterally in recent hours by the Armed Forces of the United States of America against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
With all due respect, what exactly was Sheinbaum trying to accomplish?
Better question: who was the target of his message? Asset? The Mexican people (barely)? Or the drug cartels that continue to operate in his own country? I’ll choose “C” for $500, Alex.
Article 2, paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations states textually:
“Members of the organization, in their international relations, refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of…

The SRE statement also said (emphasis mine):
Based on its foreign policy principles and its pacifist vocation, Mexico urgently calls for respect for international law, as well as for the principles and objectives of the Charter of the United Nations, and to cease all acts of aggression against the Venezuelan government and people.
Latin America and the Caribbean are a zone of peacebuilt on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful resolution of disputes and prohibition of the threat and use of force. Therefore, any military action constitutes a serious risk for regional stability..
Seriously?
I wouldn’t go so far as to suggest that Mexican authorities need to stop crack pipes, but the suggestion that Latin America – including Mexico – is “a zone of peace” and “regional stability” requires suspension of disbelief.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he thought Sheinbaum was a “great person” but that the cartels were “running Mexico,” adding:
We’re going to have to do something. We would like Mexico to do it, it is capable of doing so, but unfortunately the cartels are very strong in Mexico.
Bingo. Or would it be “gringo”? OK, bad joke, but here we are.

Here’s some more bluster from the Mexican government:
The Mexican government also affirmed that “dialogue and negotiation are the only legitimate and effective means to resolve existing disputes” and therefore reaffirmed its “willingness to support any effort aimed at facilitating dialogue, mediation or accompaniment that contributes to preserving regional peace and avoiding confrontation.”
Furthermore, he urged the UN to “act immediately to contribute to the de-escalation of tensions, facilitate dialogue and create the conditions for a peaceful and lasting solution in accordance with international law.”
Oh no! What will President Trump do if the corrupt United Nations “acts immediately” (by issuing a strong statement)?
Ignore them, I guess – and that’s exactly what he should do.
