Shooting of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro has police searching for a suspect

Police have intensified their search for a suspect in the murder of Massachusetts Institute of Technology physics professor Nuno FG Loureiro. He was shot Monday night at his home near Boston and died in hospital Tuesday. The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said the investigation is ongoing and no suspects are in custody. Loureiro, a physicist and fusion scientist, joined MIT in 2016 and led the Plasma Science and Fusion Center. People gathered outside his home Tuesday evening to pay their respects, some holding candles. The FBI said it was not aware of any connection between the professor’s shooting and a recent fatal shooting at Brown University.
