Shutdown ‘Not Just About the ACA’, It’s ‘Whole Republican Budget’, Tax Cuts, Increased ICE Funding

The broadcast of Thursday of “CNN News Central”, representative Adam Smith (D-WA), said that the closure concerned “all the republican budget, which made massive tax reductions to the rich, added 170 billion dollars to the DHS so that ice agents can violate the rights of people across the country”. And “it’s not just ACA.”
The co-host of Boris Sanchez asked: “What the Democrats have really proposed is to restore the advantages for people who are legally present in the country, and which includes asylum seekers, refugees, DACA beneficiaries, etc. I wonder, what you support the broader argument than the previous administration has expanded parole and asylum programs – they are not the point to support, the subject of abuse, and that the administration has granted federal advantages and asylum programs – not for the point of harm but not a reason to close the federal government. »»
Smith replied: “Well, that’s not why we have this budgetary fight. It is a distraction of the broader question of the millions of people who will lose their health care under Medicaid cuts and the cuts of the affordable care law. They focus on a small niche problem, and there [are] Different parts, of course. But the broader question is the Medicaid cuts, the cuts of the affordable care law, and the entire republican budget, which has made massive tax reductions to the rich, added $ 170 billion to the DHS so that ice agents can violate the rights of people across the country. This is the budget for which they expect the Democrats to vote simply. Their argument on the undocumented population is a very small part of a larger argument. And by the way, I will emphasize that the Trump administration actively removes this asylum status of thousands – hundreds of thousands of people and expeling them. This number will therefore be much smaller, but it is a small percentage of people who face health care cuts because of the republican budget. »»
Smith added: “The republican budget that is in place and that they want us to continue, it is what is continuous resolution, is a set of priorities that Democrats do not support. … It is not only ACA.”
