Microsoft closes its Outlook Lite application for Android, a light version of its messaging customer designed for low -end phones and slower networks. The application will be withdrawn from October 6, 2025, and after this date, new facilities will be blocked.

Once the date has passed, existing users can continue to use the application for a limited time, but it will ultimately be completely withdrawn a few months later. The reason for the change, according to Microsoft, is to concentrate its investments in the Flagship Outlook mobile application for Android. The company claims that the main application has greater functionality and better user experience.

When it was launched for the first time in 2022, the Outlook Lite application was designed for users on small markets and those with phones that had as little as 1 GB of RAM. The application has been optimized to use less battery and work on 2G and 3G networks. It was also a super small download, about 5 MB, which made a big difference compared to the complete Outlook application, which is much larger and can take a while to load.

I like my email to be simple, so I am one of those affected by this news. I hoped there would be a low data mode or something similar, but it does not come. It will not replace those who like the efficiency of the application, unless you use third -party email verifiers, which I do not recommend at all.

The smallest application had the main characteristics of Outlook, such as access to email, calendar and contacts, without all additional things that can make the main application heavy. Although the main application is excellent and has many features, such as cloud storage integration and Microsoft Copilot assistant, it can be a bit of a pork of resources. A major drawback of the Outlook application is that it will show you ads unless you pay a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Microsoft simply wants to continue working on a large application instead of maintaining two distinct, and this is not the first time that the company does. Microsoft has also removed other smaller products such as the extension of the browser from the autonomous editor and the Cortana mobile application to rationalize its objective.

To prepare the change, Microsoft recommends that everyone will go to the complete Outlook mobile application. You can easily do this by selecting the “Install Microsoft Outlook” banner in the notification section of your Outlook Lite application, or you can simply access the Google Play Store, search for “Microsoft Outlook” and download it from there. Since all of this is to enter your e-mail from servers, no manual data migration is required. Your emails, attachments and calendar entries will all be there when you connect to the new application with your existing identification information.

Complete retirement is expected in a few months after October 6. It is therefore probably preferable to change as soon as possible to avoid any disturbance.
