The situation in violence-hit Moava village in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district was under control on Saturday and no outbreak was reported due to tight security measures, police said.
At least 26 people were injured on Friday in clashes triggered by a protracted land dispute in the village of Medziphema subdivision.
The clash broke out between the villagers and members of the Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO).
Moava village council chairman Sutminlal Vaiphei, speaking to the media on Saturday, said efforts were on to resolve the issue through dialogue.
He said the violence stemmed from a dispute over specific land and that there had been no attempt to obstruct development activities.
Police called on the public to maintain peace, refrain from spreading rumors and cooperate with authorities to ensure harmony and prevent such an incident from happening again.
