Six-figure luxury and performance for $40K–$60K

The Lincoln Navigator underwent a full redesign for the 2025 model year, entering its fifth generation. Among the new features was something called Lincoln Rejuvenate, which makes the Navigator a “spa on wheels.”
When in park, the Rejuvenate system takes owners through an entire session between five and 10 minutes. The driver’s seat reclines and starts massaging while the steering wheel moves away. Meanwhile, calming visuals, such as a waterfall, are projected across the 48-inch panoramic display, along with an array of relaxing sounds, lighting, and fragrances.
It’s either really cool or really corny, depending on your perspective. But one thing is for sure, it’s really expensive, as the starting MSRP for a 2026 Lincoln Navigator is $91,995. Focusing on the model years before the redesign, in particular, the 2020 through 2024 models will save you the higher MSRP and depreciation.
Asking prices
Scanning through my Autotrader app
Here in Detroit, where I am located, there is plenty of selection on my Autotrader app (104 within a 25-mile radius, model years 2020 through 2024 as of this writing).
On the low end of the price range, I found a 2021 Navigator Reserve with the Luxury Package in Farmington Hills, Michigan, for $39,988 with 79,000 miles. The Luxury Package includes the 20-speaker Revel audio system and a 30-way power driver’s seat, sometimes listed as the “Perfect Position” seats.
On the higher end of the price range, there was a 2024 certified pre-owned Navigator Black Label in Novi, Michigan, with 16,000 miles, listing for $83,995. A graphic from the dealer (Varsity Lincoln) on the Autotrader app shows a special promotion of 2.49% APR for 48 months.
During the 2022 mid-cycle refresh of the Navigator, two new Black Label themes were introduced. Central Park combines a Manhattan Green exterior paint with an Urban Green Venetian leather interior, complete with Walnut wood that has been laser-etched with the park’s actual pathways. The second theme, Invitation, features black Venetian leather with open-pore Khaya wood that extends across the instrument panel and center console.
Beyond my local area here in Detroit, I conducted a few other searches across the U.S. for pre-owned Navigators from 2020 to 2024. In the Omaha area, where there were 54 on the market, the lowest-priced model was a 2020 Navigator Reserve with the Luxury Package for $33,995, with 117,000 miles. On the higher side of the price spectrum was a 2024 Black Label for $64,950 with 10,000 miles.
In Atlanta, there were over 100 to pick from, although my Autotrader app suggested a 2021 Navigator Reserve with 75,000 for a list price just under $39,000. In San Diego, I had the fewest matches on my Autotrader app, with just 18. However, a black 2024 Navigator Reserve with 48,000 miles was flagged by my Autotrader app as a “Good Price,” being listed for $56,298.

Repair cost data
Five-year outlook better than industry average
According to CarEdge data, the cost to maintain a Lincoln Navigator over a decade is about $720 higher than the industry average for large luxury SUVs. Here is a quick summary:
- Five-Year Outlook: The average cost of maintenance and repairs over the first five years is about $4,380, which is $1,130 below the industry average.
- 10-Year Outlook: Maintenance costs for a Navigator during its first decade of ownership are projected to be about $13,200. That is about $723 more than the industry average for luxury SUVs.
- 10-Year Odds of a Repair: There is about a 34 to 35 percent chance that a pre-owned Navigator will need a major repair during its first decade, which is about four percent better than that of similar large luxury SUVs.
While many factors can influence a premium, CarEdge data shows that the average annual cost to insure a Lincoln Navigator is about $3,000, or about $250 a month.
According to RepairPal data, the Lincoln Navigator has an average rating. Here is a quick summary:
- Reliability Score: The Navigator’s reliability rating of 2.5 out of 5.0 places it fifth out of 19 for full-size luxury SUVs.
- Maintenance Costs: Although the Navigator is fifth out of 19, which is a good placement, RepairPal notes that the average annual repair cost is about $1,090. According to RepairPal, the frequency of repairs is average, but they are more likely to be severe than those of comparable vehicles.
- Frequency of Repairs: Navigator owners visit a dealer for unscheduled service an average of 0.4 times per year, compared to 0.7 times for other full-size SUVs.

Powertrain and fuel economy
Transmission service interval comes early
Under the hood of the 2020 through 2024 Lincoln Navigator is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. If you are looking at a Navigator with higher mileage, it’s always a good idea to ask about service history, especially the last time the transmission fluid was flushed.
According to CarEdge, the first transmission fluid service is at 30,000 miles. While the owner’s manual may suggest a longer “normal” interval, CarEdge is likely recommending the 30,000-mile interval to reduce the severity of long-term repairs, as mentioned by RepairPal.
There is a slight difference in horsepower output for the 3.5-liter twin-turbo, depending on the model year. As part of the mid-cycle refresh in 2022, horsepower was reduced to 440 from 450, while torque remained unchanged at 510 lb-ft. The slight drop allowed the Navigator’s fuel efficiency to improve while keeping its max towing capacity the same at 8,700 lbs.
2022 mid-cycle refresh
ActiveGlide hands-free driving
The 2022 mid-cycle refresh of the Navigator introduced Lincoln’s Road Preview system, which uses a front-facing camera that scans the road up to 500 times per second. When it detects a pothole or bump, the adaptive suspension preemptively adjusts the dampers.
Other tech updates in 2022 included a larger touchscreen (13.2 inches, up from 10 inches) and a rear-seat entertainment system that incorporated Amazon Fire TV.
The 2022 mid-cycle refresh also included a feature called ActiveGlide, which is similar in functionality to Ford’s BlueCruise. When activated, it allows for hands-free driving on over 130,000 miles of pre-qualified sections of divided highways called “Blue Zones.” However, the feature does require a monthly or annual subscription.

Avoid the high MSRP
Pre-owned Navigators can be a solid option
If you are looking for a deal on a pre-owned Navigator, the 2020 through 2024 models are a good option, with the 2022 through 2024 models benefiting from the mid-cycle refresh. Focusing on the model years before the full redesign in 2025 will save you some cost, especially against a brand-new model.
While RepairPal data shows a higher average annual repair cost ($1,089), you might be able to mitigate some of that by looking for a pre-owned model with a good service history.
