Sky expecting to hold off Netflix for exclusive US Open golf coverage | US Open

Sky Sports is in advanced talks on the signing of a new six-year agreement for the live rights of the US Open US Open. The current contract expires after the championship next year at Shinnecock Hills and he expects to repel competition from other broadcasters, including Netflix, to obtain an extension.
The New Deal will cement the position of Sky as the home of the television golf course in the United Kingdom, because it has the rights for all male and women majors, the Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. The PGA Tour agreement also expires next year and Sky should look for an extension.
Sources involved in the tender process said that Netflix had made a credible offer, which reflects its growing interest in securing sports content.
Another source said that Netflix had considered the US Open adapted to its tender sports model for autonomous events which, according to him, will attract new subscribers, rather than trying to take traditional dissemination societies in the battle for the content all year round of leagues and world visits. He previously collaborated with the US PGA on the Full Swing documentary, which took place for three series.
Netflix becomes an important player in the battle for sporting content and this year has obtained exclusive American rights for the 2027 and 2031 football world cuts, while she also has a three -year contract with the NFL to broadcast two live games on Christmas day from 2024 to 2026.
Netflix is increasingly considering sports as a key element in its entertainment offer after the enormous success of the controversial Mike Tyson-Jake Paul who disseminated it last year, which was watched in 65 million households in the United States, with 50m broadcasting the other main fight on the map between Katie Taylor and Amanda.
In January 2024, Netflix announced a 10 -year agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment worth 5 billion dollars to broadcast the successful program RAW. Having had a major success with Drive to survive, Netflix is also considered to be offers for American Formula 1 rights from next year.
Sky has the rights of the United Kingdom F1 guaranteed until 2029 and will seek an extension when the tender process takes place.
Sky refused to comment.
