Small plane goes off runway and down embankment at Conn. airport

A small plane left the runway and crashed into an embankment at a Connecticut airport Thursday.

The incident occurred at Waterbury-Oxford Airport around 3:55 p.m., according to Connecticut State Police.

The single-engine plane took off from Danbury shortly after 3 p.m. and landed in Oxford around 3:48 p.m., according to the flight tracking site Flight Aware.

The pilot was the only person on board the plane, a Cessna, and was not injured. The plane suffered significant damage.

No information about what preceded the incident has been released.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) are investigating.
