A Smart Lamp You Build Yourself in Fifteen Minutes

Admittedly, I was a bit surprised when I received the box this product came in, as it was nowhere near the full length of the lamp. This one came in pieces, while other smart corner lamps I’ve reviewed (such as those from WiZ) arrived as one whole. It’s a trade-off: naturally, the box a complete corner lamp comes in is much bigger, but there’s no construction required from the customer. On the other hand, the Neewer NF01 does require a few minutes of work to set up, but it’s really easy.

You slide some metal pieces together, tighten some screws, and insert the light strip into the proper receptacle. After you plug it in, you download the Neewer Home app, connect to the lamp via phone Bluetooth, and it’s ready to go. All in all, the whole thing shouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes.

A Sleek, Somewhat Futuristic Design That Fits Anywhere

There’s not actually a whole lot to say about the design of most corner lamps. At the end of the day, they are all poles of some sort with a light side you point at a wall. Nevertheless, the Neewer NF01 is pretty sleek and unassuming, with a mostly silver casing and black aesthetic. It’ll easily slot into most rooms that would benefit from this type of lighting. The base is a little fancier than some other options, with the pole elevated above it by a single arm, almost to simulate floating.

The base is a bit bigger than some other floor lamps I’ve used, like some options from WiZ, which can make it a little harder to find a good place for the NF01, but it’s not really a big deal unless you’re trying to place it on a nightstand or something. The charger does have a pretty big power brick, which can be an eyesore if you don’t place it properly, but overall, this is a floor lamp that can slot into almost any space without being too garish.

A Fair Amount of Light and Color Options at Your Fingertips

Smart lamps that can turn many colors are a dime a dozen, and nothing really sets them apart. What matters most for these products, at least in my opinion, is how much variety they have and how much you can customize them.

In this regard, the Neewer NF01 is a bit above average, but nothing extraordinary. By using the Neewer Home app, you can control many light and color options for your smart lamp.

You can set the light based on CCT temperature, ranging from 1800K to 6500K. You can pick a solid color, adjustable via color gamut (think a color wheel selector) and saturation levels. There are four dozen “scenes” to choose from, which use certain light colors and motion patterns to emulate certain aesthetics, like rainfall, thunder, a hearty fire, or fireworks.

48 scenes isn’t the highest number I’ve seen across the smart lamp brands, but it’s still decent, somewhere in the middle of the pack. It’s more than enough to set the mood in any room.

You can also have the smart lamp react to sound or music in the room with a variety of different effects, and you can use the effects available to create your own custom patterns too. The level of customization is, admittedly, a little rudimentary—there are only six effects to play around with. But the way you can implement them is unique, because the Neewer NF01 allows you to customize the light in seven segments: you can set each segment to have different colors and effects, allowing you to create something truly your own.

Finally, there is an AI assistant you can use to generate new color patterns. You can enter text to request a certain type of aesthetic, or you can, supposedly, provide an image to the AI and have it make a new color scheme and pattern based on that. Unfortunately, I never actually got that feature to work, regardless of what image I tried, but that might be a problem with the Neewer Home app more than the NF01 itself.

Ultimately, the NF01 corner lamp has a pretty healthy range of color options and patterns, a fair deal of customization options, and a visibly appreciative amount of power, allowing it to light up any room in almost any color or pattern (or at least one corner of a room). If you need some smart lighting to add color to your life, it’s a great choice.

Should You Buy the Neewer NF01 Smart Corner Lamp?

I’m not going to lie and say that the Neewer NF01 is something groundbreaking. But it’s pretty good value for the money. It falls within the same price range as many other smart corner lamps, and while it’s not as robust with the customization options as the higher-end products, it has more options than a lot of smart lamps around the same price. It could have a little more, but it’s not bad at all, and at the end of the day, you even get a free magnetic screwdriver with this thing, and who doesn’t need one of those?

Ultimately, if you’re looking for ambient light to add to your home, you can do a lot worse than the Neewer NF01 for a hundred bucks.
