Snake Oil Salesman Says Trans Kids Are Result of “Junk Science”
The Trump administration is defunding gender-affirming care.
The new rulerannounced Thursday by the Department of Health and Human Services, virtually prohibits gender-affirming care in any hospital participating in Medicare or Medicaid, even if the care itself is not funded with federal funds.
In announcing the policy change, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy — who has made millions of dollars peddling completely debunked health conspiracies — condemned the concept of gender-affirming care as “junk science.”
“So-called gender-affirming care has inflicted lasting physical and psychological harm on vulnerable young people. It’s not medicine, it’s malpractice,” Kennedy said. “We are done with bogus science driven by ideological goals and not the well-being of children. »
In fact, medical studies have shown that providing trans and nonbinary children with gender-affirming care actually makes them safer. Gender-affirming care decreases the amount of depression and anxiety trans and non-binary teens feel, and it makes them less likely to consider suicide.
But genuine research into the complications of gender dysphoria apparently has little importance to Kennedy’s HHS, which seems obsessed with the lie that transgender children have unlimited access to surgical sex changes. The truth is that this is not the case: virtually no sex reassignment surgeries have been performed on transgender minors diagnosed with gender dysphoria. This decision can be made when they turn 18 and are of legal age to make the decision for themselves.
The hype is misleading and obscures the facts :A Harvard School of Public Health 2024 Study found that cisgender adults and minors underwent “significantly” more “gender-affirming surgeries” than their transgender counterparts — although Kennedy announced no restrictions on this.
Instead, the anti-vaxxer revealed his agency would take “six decisive actions” designed to protect children from what he described as “surgical mutilation.”
“Guided by gold standard science and the President’s First Week Executive Order [Donald] Trump…this morning I signed a statement,” Kennedy continued. “Gender rejection procedures are neither a safe nor effective treatment for children with gender dysphoria.”
The LGBTQ+ community has had a target on its back since Trump returned to power. The administration has endeavored to transgender athletes and alarmist on access to toilets, while book bans purging texts favorable to LGBTQ+ have jumped across the country.
Earlier this year, the ultraconservative brass of the Supreme Court ruled along ideological lines in United States vs. Skrmetti that states can prohibit minors from receiving gender-affirming care, such as hormone treatments and puberty blockers, thereby depriving parents of the control they are crying out for.
