This week, as global tensions rise, the Cold Open returned to familiar territory: James Austin Johnson behind a podium, doing his weird Trump, explaining why the United States launched attacks on Iran.

“What is war for? » Johnson’s Trump begins. “Distracting from the Epstein files.”

Subtle, this is not the case.

The broadcast aired just hours after the United States, in coordination with Israel, launched strikes against Iranian military targets. This then sparked retaliatory attacks, and what Vox describes as the start of a “full-scale, never-ending war.”

Colin Jost’s Pete Hegseth then entered the Cold Open to screaming patriotic rock, brimming with Fox News bravado. “Don’t let my confident attitude fool you,” Hegseth said of Jost. “I’m scared and I don’t know what I’m doing.”
