Snow Peak’s Field Rise is a clever rooftop tent that inflates in minutes

Since the 1950s, Snow Peak has achieved cult status in its native Japan. Its outdoor camping products are some of the most intelligently designed in the space. But the all-new Field Rise marks a first in the company’s history as it makes its debut in the world of rooftop tents.
Unlike regular pop-up roof tents, the Field Rise stays true to its name by literally “rising” via any portable pump featuring an inflatable structure design that sets up and takes down in minutes, much like many of the best roof top tents we’ve tested. The double-walled construction helps minimize condensation and ensures it resists wind and rain. As such, it’s designed for true four-season versatility in various climates, making it just as useful in the heat of summer as it is in the dead of winter.

Like many traditional RTTs, the Field Rise features a generous front entrance as well as screened windows on the remaining three sides, ensuring the tent remains bright and well ventilated in all conditions. The included tarp extends from the main tent to more than double the combined indoor/outdoor living space.
What I particularly like about this tent is that the lack of a bulky metal frame significantly reduces the overall weight of the Field Rise. Not only does this help reduce drag and improve the overall fuel economy of any vehicle, but it also maximizes its compatibility with a wider range of cars and smaller trucks than most other tents on the market.
The Field Rise Rooftop Tent is available on Snow Peak’s official Japanese website for ¥396,000 (around $2,500 including tax), with a cover and extendable ladder. Unfortunately, it is not yet known what distribution will be in the United States.
