Some say the FDA should have acted more quickly to help implement the ByHeart infant formula recall

Published:

The current outbreak of infant botulism attributed to ByHeart formula and reminders surrounding the situation are sending shockwaves across the country, with food safety officials calling for government response to the chain of events.

The outbreak has sickened at least 51 babies since December 2023. The vast majority of babies fell ill starting in August this year. All of the sick infants were hospitalized with severe symptoms, but none died.

ByHeart initially recalled two lots of its powdered infant formula on November 8. The company expanded the recall to include all of its preparations on November 11.
