Listening: A National Cancer Institute employee claims that cuts to financing research and a lack of transparency perceived to the agency threaten the well-being of cancer patients. A spokesperson for the agency says it is “deceptive” – it works to ensure that the money is well spent.

The National Cancer Institute, long credited to have lowered mortality rates by cancer in the United States, faces a massive upheaval because the Trump administration imposes in-depth funding reductions. The subsidies were suddenly dismissed, the key employees dismissed and the essential resources of patients who are not maintained.

Hundreds of current and former NIH employees protested through the Bethesda declaration, warning that these cuts could stall decades of progress in cancer research.

Kff Health News correspondent, Rachana Pradhan, appeared on Wamu “Health Hub” on July 23 to explain what the current and former employees of the agency have to say.

We would like to speak with the current and former staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Services or its component agencies who believe that the public should understand the impact of what is happening in the Federal Bureaucracy of Health. Please send a KFF Health News message on signal to (415) 519-8778 or Contact here.
