Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Show: No Spanish Required

We’re two beds away from Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime takeover, and all I can do is LFG!
On Thursday, the three-time Grammy Award winner, whose Album of the Year (put some respect on Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio’s) name, appeared in a pre-Super Bowl halftime interview with Apple Music hosts Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden to talk about what millions of viewers can expect when he takes the stage at halftime.
“It’s 13 minutes of doing something that I love, that I love,” Bad Bunny said, while speaking Spanish during the interview. “And I try to enjoy it, and I know I’m going to have fun. The whole team, all the people, they’re going to have fun that day.”
Previously, Benito said people only have a few months to perfect their Spanish. But if, like me, you have a crying Duolingo icon on your smartphone’s home screen, Bad Bunny doesn’t want you to worry.
“It’ll be easy,” assured Bad Bunny. “I know I’ve told people they have four months to learn Spanish; they don’t even need to learn Spanish. It’s better if they learn to dance. There’s no better dance that can come from the heart. Heartbeat dancing? That’s the only thing they have to worry about and have fun and enjoy. And of course, picking their team at the game.”
Of course, Zane and Ebro tried to get details on which special guest stars might appear on the halftime show. “You know that’s something I’m not going to tell you,” Bad Bunny laughs, keeping his plans safe under that adorable bunny cap. “I don’t know why you’re asking that.” Instead, he deflected expertly. “Well, of course, I think I have a lot of guests, there will be my family, my friends,” he said. “The whole Latino community around the world that supports me and believes in me. And the whole country. There are a lot of people that love me around the world.” Well done.
But fans know that Bad Bunny has some very famous artist friends that he considers family, like Marc Anthony and Ricky Martin. And her collaborators include everyone from Cardi B to, dare I say, Beyoncé herself. Super Bowl viewers could therefore be in for some star surprises.
If you know anything about Bad Bunny, you already know that he puts culture and history into everything he does. So we can probably predict that there will be nods the island of Puerto Rico and a celebration of Latino music, dance and style. Trust that a lot of culture is going to happen during these 13 minutes of show.
“It’s going to be a big party,” Benito confirmed. “It’s always going to be what people can expect from me…Of course, a lot of my culture. But I really don’t want to spoil it. It’s going to be fun.”
People on Twitter are excited for halftime and getting their dance moves ready:
I know I don’t need to tell you that Super Bowl Sunday is February 8th. But how do you celebrate the Benito Bowl on Sunday? Let me know in the comments!
