Spotify Finally Supports Lossless Audio

It’s official: Spotify finally takes audio loss without loss. The company made this announcement in a blog article on Wednesday, revealing that the high fidelity audio option will begin to deploy on premium subscribers in “Select Markets”.

This means that if you live in one of these selected markets and pay for Spotify, you can enjoy your music up to 24 bits / 44.1 kHz Flac. This is completely the jump: before, Spotify Premium has taken care of up to 320kbit / s on its applications, and only 256kbit / s on the web.

How to take advantage of loss -free audio

What change means for you is a better listening experience, assuming that you use high quality headphones or speakers. The 320kbit / s audio sounds fairly well, but it is compressed, which means that you lose audio data in the name of the drop in storage or streaming sizes. Audio without loss, on the other hand, retains all the original audio data during compression, therefore with the right equipment, you can hear more details in your music than before.

This does not mean that these other quality configurations disappear. 24 -bit FLAC / 44.1 kHz probably uses a plot Data, whether you stream or download loss -free files. Spotify has not yet shared which file sizes are, so we cannot know with certainty what the difference will be. But if you have a limited cellular data plan, or a device with storage, streaming or limited download in a loss may not be possible.

Anyway, you may not notice any difference, especially if you usually use Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Bluetooth is practical, but technology is limited in audio quality: it can support high quality audio reading, but not without loss, so everything that is above 320 kbit / s will probably be compressed before reaching your ears. As such, Spotify recommends you using wired audio outputs when reading loss -free tracks.

I don’t know exactly what has taken Spotify so long to deploy this. The company teases the option since February 2021, while other streaming services – in particular, Tidal and Apple Music – jumped on the train years ago.

How to disseminate without loss on Spotify

Spotify says you will have to activate manually without loss on each device you listen to. When the functionality takes place, you will have to do the following:
