A woman who thought she had brought home a miniature poodle puppy quickly realized something wasn’t quite right.

The woman, who posts to TikTok under the username @poodlediariesvlog, shared a clip on June 28, holding up the new puppy she got from a breeder in Atlanta, Georgia.

She asked simply: “Does this look like a mini poodle? This dog is literally so huge.”

Sure enough, two-month-old puppy Ace already looks almost as big as full-grown miniature poodles, who as adults weigh up to 15 pounds, and grow up to 15 inches tall, according to the American Kennel Club.

And while the puppy does appear to have a curly golden coat, the woman said that when she took Ace to get his shots, the veterinarians told her straight out: “This is not a miniature poodle.”

“And I’m like, ‘oh that’s crazy, because the breeder said it was,'” she said.

She was then told that it was likely Ace is “some type of Doodle,” a poodle crossed with a different breed—and so she asked TikTok for their opinions.

And users responded in their droves, watching the video close to 200,000 times, as one predicted Ace was actually a Goldendoodle, while one thought: “Girl that’s a golden retriever.”

One urged everyone to only buy purebreds that are AKC registered, which “ensures the poodle is full-bred.”

The AKC permanently records a dog’s place in their breed history, providing an official AKC Registration Certificate, and adding to the world’s largest database of dog DNA profiles for parentage verification and genetic identity. This ensures reliable registration records, according to the AKC website.

Other commenters pleaded for the woman to still keep and love Ace regardless of his breed, as one put it: “You got a much better deal…he’s beautiful.”

The mystery of Ace’s continued for weeks, until on July 24, she posted another video declaring: “DNA results are in.”

And it revealed that Ace is not a full miniature poodle, but a mix of a toy or miniature poodle, and 10 percent cocker spaniel, making him a cockapoo—as well as, she wrote, “100 percent a good boy.”

For those worried Ace wouldn’t be wanted as he wasn’t a full miniature poodle, they had nothing to worry about.

Instead, he’s still a loved, pampered pet, and they even got a second puppy named Nala, a poodle, with their TikTok account now filled with the two dogs growing up together.
