During Wednesday’s broadcast of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene (D-WA) responded to a question about whether the government shutdown was worth it by saying that “defending the American people is absolutely worth it.” But he also argued that Republicans were “shutting down the government.”

Co-host Joe Mathieu asked, “Was it all worth it?”

DelBene responded: “Standing up for the American people is definitely worth it. People are struggling with the skyrocketing costs that have happened under the policies of this administration and the Republicans. They want people who are going to resist falling costs. And the Republicans promised to cut costs from day one. That has been a big broken promise. And now they are creating skyrocketing health care costs across the country. We could come together to address these costs, keeping the government open, supporting programs that help the American people, but the Republicans don’t care. They are just blindly loyal to Donald Trump.

She later argued that Republicans “put us in a situation where they shut down the government.”
