Todd Blanche Pours Cold Water Over New Report About DOJ Case – RedState
As we reported in July, a criminal referral was filed by the Federal Housing Finance Agency with the Department of Justice against Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA). The referral raised questions of alleged mortgage fraud.
Schiff freaked out about this. In a video made nearly five minutes after the dismissal, Schiff ranted, saying he was a target of President Donald Trump.

So what’s going on with this case?
MSNBC’s Ken Dilanian aired a report on Schiff on Thursday, and it didn’t look good.

He stated:
The federal prosecutor investigating whether Sen. Adam Schiff should be charged with mortgage fraud recently told her bosses in Washington that she didn’t think the case was strong enough to move forward, two sources familiar with the matter told MSNBC.
A third person familiar with the matter said the investigation was continuing.
Kelly Hayes, the U.S. attorney in Maryland, met in recent days with Todd Blanche, an assistant attorney general, to brief him on the Schiff case, the three people said.
Hayes, an experienced federal prosecutor, told Blanche she did not think the case against Schiff was strong, two people said. Both men said Ed Martin, a controversial senior Justice Department official, was pushing for the case to continue.
Of course, this has spread all over the left, because it fits their rhetoric.
Dilanian later clarified that MSNBC had split from NBC and cited “former colleagues” at NBC in the report.
Dilanian also released this statement from Schiff’s attorney and former U.S. Attorney, Preet Bharara:
“It seems pretty clear that a team of career prosecutors has thoroughly examined the politically motivated allegations against Senator Schiff and found that they are unsupported by any evidence and are without merit. The blatantly vindictive efforts to prosecute the senator have no merit, and if there is any justice left in the Justice Department, that should be the end of the matter.”

But there was a small problem in this story, according to Assistant Attorney General Todd Blanche. The meeting “never happened,” he said. He completely erased history.

“Can you request more information from both of your ‘sources’?” Blanche clapped back. “I’m really curious. I can’t wait to learn more about this fabricated meeting! And unequivocally: U.S. Attorney Hayes told me nothing of the sort.”
Oops, too bad for this story. And even in the NBC story, they note that the case is ongoing, according to their sources.
So if the left thought they had something here and Schiff thought they could use it, Blanche crushed it, but so be it.
