GOP Nom Ciattarelli Heats Up With an Live On-Air Assist From Trump–and Famous Native NJ Voice Cuts Ad – RedState

Republican candidate for New Jersey governor Jack Ciattarelli appears to be gaining ground in his race, as strong national voices join him on the stump (well, virtually, at least in one case). It would be a telephone town hall, which Ciattarelli held Friday with his supporters — and President Donald Trump was also on the line. Early voting begins Saturday.

During his remarks to supporters, the president criticized Democratic opponent Rep. Mikie Sherill, but expressed satisfaction with the poor quality of life for Garden State citizens if she were allowed to become governor:

“Mikie, what we call her, the only thing she has is an unusual name, other than that, she’s horrible,” Trump said, according to Politico.

“Mikie Sherrill looks [like] such an innocent name, but his energy policy would send prices skyrocketing and make New Jersey even more expensive than it already is,” he later added.

The president said if the Democratic lawmaker was elected governor, New Jersey would enter a “death spiral.”

Close. Trump also praised Ciattarelli, contrasting his conservative energy proposals with Sherill’s liberal plans, predicting the Republican would win and promising to “campaign” for him:

“Jack is going to be great and he’s going to cut your energy bills in half, and she’s going to double your energy bills so in New Jersey, on energy bills alone…on energy alone, I think Jack should win,” Trump said, according to the Associated Press.

Upon returning from his trip to Asia, the president said he would “campaign for Jack.”

On Saturday, Ciattarelli told FNC’s Fox & Friends that his campaign had “racked up at least 12” endorsements from Democrats in his state:

My colleague Adam Turner has just published a new column, with his reading of the tea leaves – a week and a half before the off-year elections – which suggests signs of hope for the election to the post of governor of New Jersey for the Republican candidate. This is partly explained, he says, by the fact that some crazy numbers in favor of the Democrat are integrated into the polling average in the home stretch:

The RCP average still puts Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill ahead of former Republican state lawmaker Jack Ciattarelli, 48.1 to 44 percent. But Sherrill’s numbers are bolstered by at least one mediocre polling organization that has a nasty habit of underestimating the Republican Party vote.

Turner adds these other positive signs of a possible upset for the Republicans – something that would have implications down the ballot:

Otherwise, Ciattarelli seems to have the BIG MO. He was endorsed by nearly a dozen prominent local and state Democratic officials.

The unions that supported [former Dem Gov. Phil] Murphy before moving on to Ciattarelli. Democrats are increasingly concerned about turnout among the Black community, which in the 2024 elections has shown a willingness to vote Republican.

Do yourself a huge favor and read the whole thing, if you need to keep up with what’s happening in New York’s hotly contested mayoral contest, as well as the Virginia races that RedState has covered throughout the cycle. He is an excellent analyst!

New Jersey residents are “fed up” with the decline caused by Democrats in the state, says Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ):

I’ll leave you with a little extra signal that the Jersey Republican candidate’s campaign is doing the right things; releasing a nice ad like this for Ciattarelli doesn’t hurt at all.

Oh yes, the voiceover is that of none other than her New Jersey native son… Kelsey Grammer:

Any time Republicans can leverage the power of a Hollywood star — as was done here, in an honest way, while still sending a conservative message — that’s the way to win seats we might not otherwise win. Congratulations to whoever made this call to his team.

This excerpt from Grammer’s big show “Frasier,” which features the title character’s first on-air phone call, seems appropriate… Enjoy the rest of your weekend, readers!
