Verdict reached in murder trial of former dentist accused of poisoning his wife’s protein shakes
A color of Colorado made a verdict in the trial for murder of James Craig, a former dentist accused of fatally dosage of his wife’s proteins with a toxic cocktail which included medications found in the eye drops.
By finishing the arguments Tuesday before the district court of the County of Arapahoe to the Centennial, the prosecutor Michael Mauro said that Craig, father of six, killed Angela Craig, 43, after having cheated on him during most of their 23 years together and developed a fatal plot to escape their marriage.
The defense of James Craig replied that Angela Craig, of Aurora, died by suicide. Lawyer Lisa Fine Moses told the jury that her client’s “constant” cheat was a reason for her to commit suicide.
“Twenty years of him deceiving Angela Craig – he broke her,” said Moses. “He broke her heart, his soul.”
Angela Craig was hospitalized on March 15, 2023 and died three days later after a serious crisis.
The Coroner of the County of Arapahoe initially believed that a deadly dose of arsenic and cyanide killed it, although his death was later attributed to cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, the drug used in the drops for the eyes.
The authorities underlined the history of Craig’s online research – he looked for information on the question of whether Arsenic was detectable in an autopsy – and his online purchases. A few weeks before the death of his wife, James Craig ordered Amazon potassium cyanide and had him delivered to his dental office, according to a affidavit in support of a arrest warrant.
“He is not a man who wants to divorce,” said Mauro, the main assistant prosecutor of the 18th office of the Prosecutor of the Judicial District of Colorado.
“If he wants to divorce, she serves it on a silver set,” he said.
Other reasons, Mauro said, were financial – Craig wanted his wife’s money – and appearances. He didn’t want to be marred by a divorce, said Mauro.
Angela Craig’s Shakes’ protein said Mauro has become her murder weapon.
Moses said the accusation had no evidence that James Craig was the person who died the Shakes.
“They want you to guess,” she said. “You can’t guess. You don’t know if it has been voluntarily or involuntarily ingested.”
