The approval rating of the Republican senator from Maine Susan Collins fell in the middle of a tense summer session where she separated several times from her party and President Donald Trump on several crucial votes.

The results were published by Morning Consult as part of his quarterly survey on the approval ratings of the senators, and he shows the favorability of the longtime senator of Maine, 72, to a downward trend. The moderate republican said that she intended to present herself to re -election in 2026. (Linked: why 3 Republican senators voted against Trump’s megabill)

In total, 54% of the Mainers disapprove of the professional performance of Collins, marking a high point for its disapproval in the eight years of the history of the Morning Susury. Only 38% of Pine Tree voters approve the senator’s performance in office.

The Morning consumed survey consisting of the fourth quarter of 2024, on the other hand, shows that 47% of the voters of Collins approved the senator and 44% disapproved. This marked a slight decline compared to the third quarter of 2024 when 50% of the voters of Collins approved its performance at work and 42% disapproved, according to the morning consultation survey at the time.

A spokesperson for Collins underlined the higher approval notes in a Pan Atlantic research survey when reached by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The ballot was led in mid-May and interviewed 840 probable Maine voters, noting that 49% of respondents considered it favorably, while only 45% considered it unfavorably.

The decline in the approval of Collins in the morning consultation survey occurs after she opposed Trump on the key elements of her program.

Collins was one of the three Senators of the GOP to vote “no” on the “big, beautiful” bill that the president reported on July 4 – after the morning consultation investigation was carried out – invoking concerns concerning the Medicaid reforms of the bill. In the midst of the Votes series leading to the final vote to adopt the bill, Collins sponsored a measure to increase taxes over millionaires in order to stimulate the financing of rural hospitals. The amendment would have applied to those who earn more than $ 25 million a year, or couples that have more than $ 50 million in combined income.

The White House would have discussions on the replacements of Collins if it refuses to request a re -election – although it is currently confronted with any well -known primary challenge. Collins, president of the powerful Senate credits committee, has not yet announced a campaign of official re -election, but said on Tuesday that she planned to present herself in 2026 and that she was encouraged by her strong fundraising results.

Collins waited to announce its successful re -election offer in 2020 until December 2019. The Senate National Republican Committee (NRSC) already broadcasts advertisements for Collins, and a Super CAP which supported it collected $ 5.6 million in the first half of the year. Collins is currently $ 5 million in cash and has raised a total of $ 6 million according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The Senator’s stored war breast positioned it well during a general election in Democrat. Collins won his latest re -election offer in 2020 against the Democrat Sara Gideon of 9 percentage points – despite the victory of Joe Biden by the same margin. Maine is currently the only state that voted for the defaulting Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in 2024 and has a republican senator.

Jason Savage, executive director of Maine Gop, said that DCNF Collins had done a “formidable job” and said that his work had affected all the communities of the state – something that voters will not forget about the mid -term of 2026.

“There is generally a broad support in our committee and elected officials here,” said Savage about the approval of Collins in Maine. “I think a lot is blown away in the national press.”

Savage said that part of the attraction of Collins to Maine voters is its ability to be frank on Washington’s policy. His desire to also explain reasoning behind his votes, like politics behind them, leads his reputation for accessibility.

“If Gideon or [Independent Maine Sen. Angus] King does not respond to phones, voters know that Collins will do it, “said Savage.

The Democratic Senate Democratic candidates in Maine understand David Costello, the party candidate in 2024 who was acting secretary of the Maryland environment department, and Jordan Wood who was the chief of staff to the former Democratic representative of California, Katie Porter.

Gop meaning. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Joni Ernst of Iowa were the only other Republicans to receive negative approval ratings in the quarterly morning survey.

The Morning Consult Tracker was produced on a hilly base between April and June. The margins of error among the registered voters vary according to the state, lower than +/- 6 percentage points in less populated states such as Wyoming at +/- 1 point in more populated states like California.
